Tips On Conversations - First Steps
Communication is the key to any great online dating relationship, because it lets you really understand each other. Talking on your cell phone, going out to dinner or just going on a date are all ways to get to know each other a little better. Communication does not just happen, however. Conversation is a skill that you get better at as you practice. Looking for things to talk about or places to start a conversation can be hard when your are just starting to develop these skills, but if you really keep at it starting an online dating conversation will become like breathing.

When you find some common ground between the two of you that is a great place to start a conversation. By sharing experiences and interests, you are creating a bond and getting to know each other better. If you always ask questions that are open ended, it will give you a chance to listen to a longer answer than a simple yes or no. Regardless of the topic of conversation, you can tell a lot about a person as they put their thoughts together. You can find out indirectly about their ethics and morals, and you can also find out their likes and dislikes. You can begin to understand what is important to them, and you will see what makes them laugh. During this process, you are beginning to understand if the two of you are really compatible.

In a world filled with gadgets, we can use any one of them to start a conversation. Think about your cell phone. Probably your date has one as well. You can talk an entire evening away as you discuss what you do and do not like about your cell phone, the service, photos and SMS. You can discuss connectivity and processing speed, and this is just one subject, your cell phone.

If you are trying to strike up a romantic conversation you may share some of your favorite love quotes with your date. You could text your favorite quotes on their cell phone, and that guarantees that you will not even have to start the conversation. Once you are talking, what a great time to ask for a date. Be ready for the conversation that will follow, and have a reason why this is your favorite romantic quote.

Start with a Compliment

Compliments are always a great way to start a conversation. Great car, beautiful hair, people love to get a compliment. In this same vein, simply asking a question about them is another great conversation starter. Can you guess a person’s favorite topic of conversation? That is right. It is themselves. Just remember after you ask the question all you have to do is listen.

If you love humor, go for it. Everyone loves to laugh, and it is a really effective icebreaker. If you have really crazy humor, you may have to temper it a little at first. You do not want to offend with humor, so make sure that you understand where the tolerance lines are and do not cross them.

If you are nervous about starting a conversation with your online dating prospect, find something ordinary that you both share, like a cell phone. Then simply ask a question, sit back and listen. Well done!
